Artefact

Paralympic Artefact

Do you know what a artefact is?

Have you made a Paralympic artefact?

What we had to do to research about our notes ( for our artefact ) was to watch videos, read books and  use compound sentences (my goal).  We also used sentence starters.

We ( Paralympic PBL space ) had to put in good keywords so that the reader can get a good picture inside their head. Here are some keywords my PBL space used, Supportive, collaborative, friendship, perseverance mussel and much more.

Goal ball is one of the choices that I have made for my artefact.

Subheading: Goalball

Information:

Goalball was introduced in 1946 for athletes with visual impairments. The Athletes wear black  goggles. The Athletes  can’t see through the goggles so inside the ball there are 2 bells  inside the ball that tingles. When they pass the ball to the other team they have to try and get a goal or the other team can save the ball. The audience has to be silent until one of the team's get a goal. In front of each person there is a piece of sellotape that has a little amount of sting underneath. The string helps the athletes remember where they have to play and make sure that they are in the place where they have to be. There are three people in each team so the sting make sure they don’t bump into each other.

Writing

I really enjoy writing about myself and what I do in the weekend that is why I am sharing my weekend in Napier with you.  This also might be funny, describing or a boring story for you.( look at all the highlight words. They are quality voacabulary)

Something that challenged me the most was putting in funny and describing words and sentences.

Next time I could put my sentences into paragraphs because when you put your writing/work into paragraph it is easier for the reader to read you writing properly instead of having mixed up sentences.
Paragraphs has its own idea and link together with a another paragraph.

Napier
Sunday 24th July 2016

Waking up at the earliest time 6:45 to a glacial morning I was hoping that it would  be blazing hot later during the day. As I was walking towards my parents room I saw them so awake (not) I actually saw them asleep. Opening the door Mum and Dad popped out of bed and gave me a fright and in the meanwhile my dog Tomas was barking so then my auntie woke up and deliberately went straight back to sleep ( just kidding, who would do that ? ) she yelled “sshhhhh !!!!!!! please get me a drink, so that I can wake up and get ready so that we can go to market and the beach. Dad said that we might be able to go to the waterfall. Leaving the house I started getting boiled because the blistering fan was on. On our way to napier we stopped in to pak’n’save and brought a appetising banana chocolate muffin each. Then we left and went straight to the compassionate(nice) beach and the market. Going past the colossal tall trees I get the feeling that i want ice cream. “Are we there yet” Dennise(My sister)excited said. As dad parked up we ran straight out of the door and went to look for a leash for our dog Tomas so that he could come on to the stoney hard rocks and stones. Walking around the whole market with an tummy that was rumbling and blistered toes I say to my dad “Can we get something to eat” and he replied “shore(sure) we can, what do you want” My little sister quickly said "can we have squillions" ( similar word for million or a made up word) of hot chips, fried rice and hot dogs. As we ( Me my dad and my sister) Walked around looking for our mum, she emerged behind us and the sente(scent) of smell made me quickly grab the plastic cup and ate them (because I was hungry) then we all lumbed(lumbered) to the rocky stony beach. We were passing a table full of things and dad saw a satisfying piece of canvas art. Mum and me brought that and put it straight in the car and got our little puffy poodle half maltese dog Tomas (the dog in the start) I ran straight to the beach and saw an enormous dog that looked very scary. Going past the huge dog it was staring at me like he?she was going to munch! me up. Reaching mum and dad they asked me to get two different types of fizzy drinks so I said “OK”. Walking into a huge crowd of people I try and quickly get past someone and then I finally got the two drinks coke and a grape drink.
Finally getting to mum and dad we all have a sip of each drink and had a kai ( food ) then went straight home. We were going to get and Ice cream but my little sister ruined it for all of us because she didn’t like what we were doing before we go home, But instead we got a 5 liter ice cream with chopped nuts and chocolate icing. We went straight home and had dinner and dessert.

Thank you for reading my story about my terrifying but fun weekend on the beach and going to the market.

Matariki

Totara Whanau having been learning different kinds of Matariki. For Matariki I went to the huge hall and made a  big kite made out of 2 types of flax and white grass plumed sticks.

Matariki is a Maori traditional culture where people do kapa haka, art and loads of different things.

Some nights Matariki gets celebrated in some parks like Cornwall Park, Queens Park and other sorts of parks. When you go and celebrate Matariki you will see all sorts of little shops ( in a tent or a caravan) when they sell chips, hot dogs, glow in the dark things (necklace, ring or hair piece).

2 days ago Parkvale school had been spending a whole day doing Matariki. There were different activities like sewing, making kites, cooking ( just for me jokes!!!! just kidding) and a hole heap of things. It was time for morning tea and me and my team mates had finished making the kite. Everybody was proud of there work (even though some teams weren't finished but they were still proud of there hard work) For sewing there was a group of creative artist sewing a Marae on a thin black piece of fabric, another heap of creative artist made a kite with bambillo sticks, different types of harakeke (flax) and white grass plumed sticks.

I had so much fun doing Matariki with parent helpers and with out hub. When we were making the kites we were next to the kitchen and we could smell another group of Totara cooking delicious fish pie and divine fry-bread

Thanks for reading my blog post and thanks for the parent helpers that helped us on the day we did Matariki activities.

Writing

Matariki is a Maori culture and is celebrated in many different places around the world. Matariki is also celebrated in parks. I have been to most of the Matariki shows in Flaxmere because we see most of our cousins there.

I liked writing this story because I had all the information and detail all ready in my head. When I write I get a whole bunch of ideas in my head.

I my proud of this piece of writing because I have put lots of effort by using my collaborating mussel.
I have been working on making my story make sense and putting in good information, detail, and punctuation.

Introduction:

It is a special time of the year, a time when the whispering wind blows warm from the east. A crescent moon rises in the night wintry sky.

Seven little sisters make kites with seashells to celebrate the New year and say goodbye to the old year but that playful wind whips those kites away…..   MATARIKI IS HERE!
Story:

Long before our mama’s (mum) and papa’s (dad) were born, a whanau of seven sisters lived in a tiny village. The pa (village) was made of peace and kindness. In-front the Ururangi  ware (house)  there laid a patch of softly swirling grass, NOT any kind of grass,  green grass that would always swirl from the warm wind of Tawhirimatea. All around the pa there stood  big, bold aged Totara, Kauri and Rimu trees. Ururangi had a pounding heart that wouldn't stop pounding and a puku full of fluttering butterflies that wouldn’t stop fluttering because she was so excited!! to build her First!!!! Matariki kite and yes her first kite!!!!  The seven sisters gathered around at the end of Te Mata Peak and talked about what to build the kites with. They also planned what they were going to do. While they were planning their work, they started getting a whole heap of work, detail and information for their kites. The seven sisters were saying “my kites going to win” and they kept on saying that until the last person said that which was Ururangi (the youngest sister) While the seven sisters were building their kites they added different types of things like fabric and material.
.

Making the kites:

It was time to make their kites. They jump, climbed and walked down the big and bold Te Mata Peak. Together they prepared with lots of excitement. Each other placed their tools, fabric and material on the ground. They were ready and filled with excitement.  The eldest sister made a green mulberry kite, with eyes of tuatua shells. Another eldest little sister made a unique orange reed kite, with eyes of mussel. The third sister made a pink. A unique sister made a red coloured kite, with eyes of pipi shells. The curled headed fifth sister had made a blue fish-skin kite, with eyes of whelk shells. The  second littlest sister made a white-grass plumed kite, with eyes of periwinkle shells. But Ururangi, the seventh and youngest little sister, made a coloured rainbow kite, with eyes of paua shells. Have you ever wondered why there are 7 shinning stars in the night and close to the crescent beautiful moon? Have you ever celebrated Matariki? Do you know what Matariki means?

Vobaulary

Vocab

Granules
Granules mean a small compact particle of a substance.
Granules of plastic are poured into molds and melted to make a range of objects. The melted plastic becomes a solid shape when it cools.
Synonyms
Grain
Particle
Fragment
Pieces of granules are soft and hard but soft ones go straight through your fingers and hard ones crumble through your skin.
of Sharp-edged Granular

I really enjoyed make this vocabulary because I took my time and because it was fun making and learning about this vocabulary.

I am proud of my work because It looks good and because I have a lot of writing to show what granules mean.

Next time I could use the word in my writing.

Art

I have been learning how to blend with my art. Not any kind of  blending a pastel blend. There if a trick, If you smudge it with your finger you can see it so you blend it with putting different colours together.

I am proud of my art because I have worked hard on it and done my best. Also It looks 3-d (real looking), bright and colourful.

I really enjoyed making this piece of art because I took my time and because It was really fun choosing all the colours and drawing everything so it looked like it went in the distance.

Next time I could Practice blending because I would do it with my finger to smudge it but your could see your finger print so I tried It and it looked way better.

My birthday

In the past two weeks I have been writing about my birthday which was April 13th. Why I wanted to write about my birthday was because I wanted to share everything that happened and all the information I have.

I really enjoyed writing this story because I already had the information.

Something that challenged was getting all the spelling correct and making all the writing make scene.

Next time I could make sure that everybody that reads this make them get a picture in there head. Sound out the words that are tricky for me to spell.

Thank you for reading my writing about my birthday.

On my birthday we had a big surprise party and everything was blue. There were two cups but one of them were for the drink and the other was filled with lollies. We played games like blind mans bluff. try and get the balloon in the bucket. My mum and dad didn't know that what we were doing until my aunties came over and decorated the shed.

My writing about my tooth.

I have been writing a story about my tooth. At the start of my story I have tried to hook my readers in by using detail to help the reader get a picture in their head. Here are some examples of detail that I added to my story
The music was pumping loud as it sounded like it was going through the hole town.
I cuddled up into my blanket as I was putting my tiny teeth under my pink comfy pillow.
Something that challenged me was my vocabulary words and sentences. Sometimes I get stuck on making the sentences because I don't know what to type or I don't know what to do to make my sentence make sense. To help me fix up my sentences I read over them one at a time and then fix up the words so it makes sense. I am trying to start my sentences in different ways.
Here are some examples of the different ways I started my sentences
As I was eating.....
Looking in the mirror....
While I was...
After tea....
I really enjoyed fixing my sentences because when I am reading over them I get more and more ideas for my sentences. As I was writing I was thinking of funny ideas to add into my writing.

Next time I could write more information and detail for my story and write my ideas in my planning book to help me remember all the different ideas I want to add into my writing.

Here is my Sore Aching Tooth story.
My sore aching tooth

(Chapter 1 all the complaining)

As I was eating my breakfast I tasted something I never tasted before. Running to my pitch-black room I say “I need to look in my mouth, but I need to switch my light on”. Shaking and shaking I stay still frightened so I turned the light on and looked in the mirror. Looking in the mirror I see red coral blood. As I was screaming to my mum  my throat was like it was getting bitten from a spider(yuck!)   I told my mum the story , so she looked in my mouth and said that my 2nd tooth was wiggly. 5 minutes later she said that I had to go to the dentist to get my tooth pulled. Glaring up at my Mum I say “do I really need to get my  back teeth out” she replied “yes you do because you have been eating too much lollies and you have a bad toothache”.” Oh no” I said I need to come up with a plan or I will be going to the dentist to get my teeth pulled out. I went to bed and had a dream that I was getting all my teeth out and I said to myself WAIT!!! I need to get my teeth pulled out because my Mum will keep on complaining and complaining about it. I had a good night sleep until my Mum was complaining and I could hear her voice. Blah blah blah she was talking about this and that. I said “could you go please go and complain to dad”.

(Chapter 2 going to the dentist)

In the morning I got up so late I had to get dressed and everything in 10 minutes. I was so nervous because I was getting my teeth pulled out. I never wanted to get my teeth pulled out.Walking to the car I was thinking I hope this doesn't hurt. We were finally there. As we were walking amongst the room I could barely breath. Before I got my teeth pulled out the nurses put on numb gel on my gum (numb gel is a type of gel that makes your teeth or where you put it numb) While I was getting my teeth pulled out I was staring up at the light and thinking will this hurt or with this just be fine.I started to daydream of what could I buy with this money maybe my own play station, my own t.v, or would I just save it to my my own queen bed ahh that would be nice and comfortable. In the dentist they said that they were going to pull out the two back ones.

(Chapter 3 going home)

Pouncing into the car my gum started to feel sore. As me, my sister, my cousin and mum were leaving the dentist I had two long cotton in my mouth It was annoying because dribble keeps on coming out and there were heaps of water in my mouth that was DISGUSTING!!!!!!! After a long drive we stopped at Pak ‘n’ save and my mum brought me lemonade ice blocks. I said to myself I wonder what my dad is doing maybe cleaning the house up, doing the lawns, doing our room, aahhhh that's a great idea. I might make my little sister do my chores and her chores at the same time. As we were driving home I was looking at McDonald I couldn’t stop looking there I just wanted to eat there. “Anyway let's get home so I can relax” I said. As we were pulling up thru the drive thru I started to feel pain. When we parked up I feel asleep because I wanted my dad to carry me back inside(Ain’t I lazy) He started to tickle me so I woke up because I didn’t like how it felt. Jogging towards the door I see dripping blood. Thinking what could I do with this blood I might not be able to go inside.

(Chapter 4 at home)

Making my way towards the door I see my mouth pouring out blood. Making plans I say to myself I can run straight to the bathroom so that all the blood can drip into the sink.
Seeking threw the bathroom door I see a cockroach I said “I ain’t going near that little creature I don’t like those”. Making my way through my room I fall onto my bed hearing silent things. I was thinking has everybody went, until they were shouting, slamming the doors, vacuum on and the music was pumping loud as it sounded like it was going through the hole town. I screamed loud as possible they still couldn’t hear me. It was finally time to have tea. We had delicious roast chicken I was so nice I couldn’t stop eating it. After tea me, my sister and cousin had to clean up. Only me and my cousin got to have a ice - cream because my sister already had hers. It was time to go to bed. I cuddled up into my blanket as I was putting my tiny teeth under my pink comfy pillow. Waking up in the morning I threw my pillow away and had 50$ (nah just joking) I had 20$. I happily ran to my mum and said “I have 20$” she replied “OK we can go for a ride in town later”. She also said “go and get ready and by the time mum and dad wake up we can get ready and go”. Mum and dad were already to go into town. Excitedly  jogging to the car I already had my head full of ideas.

What’s your story about your tooth?

Camp Omatua fun

Totara had a wonderful time at camp Omatua even the rain started to pour down.
Thanks to the teachers and parents for supporting Totara whanau.

On the first night at camp Omatua everyone had made apple desserts
with chocolate chips, brown sugar and cinnamon. While they
were cooking the hub was playing spotlight.

My biggest achievement was making a catapult with Aspen and Lealou.
While Aspen was making our catapult Lealou was creating a catapult and
then we started playing with her catapult.
My biggest challenge was the fear factor because when you had put a
blindfold on,  you had been given something yuck
or yum to eat.

I have enjoyed spending time with my friends Keisha and Aspen.
It was fun playing with them.

Here is a photo of me, Jharvarnah, Ben M and Lucas.
This is a photo of me and my group winning the back pack challenge.

Something I really enjoyed at camp Omatua was going down the water slide
because when you pass the black plastic you got to get a lollie pop.

Here's me, Jacob v, Isabelle washing and drying the dishes and
Ryan Taylor-Gee was also helping but he just didn't get in the photo.
The parents were so hungry, busy and helpful they needed a break.
Here is Totara Whanau exploring the down low area by the fire pit.

Here are a bunch of friends playing head bands. Kasaiyah Ellazay,
Aotea Isabelle, Emma and me (Of Course)
People waiting excitedly to go on the water slide.
One of my favorite things were tubing along the river with my friend Jharvarnah.

Keisha is enjoying a mouth full of chocolate.
Isabelle is enjoying tubing along the river.

The girls being artists.

Look at Mrs Ramsay playing twister with Jada.

The girls and boys playing hand ball.

Everyone waiting to play spotlight.

Henrietta, Emma and Charlotte Orr are doing the back pack challenge

Something that I enjoyed was the chocolate game because when ever you had rolled number 6 you had to dress up crazy with the spider-man glove and cut as many chocolate pieces as you can, until the next person had rolled 6. The chocolate was delicious but I only got to eat a little bit.

My biggest challenge was the fear factor because you had to put a blindfold on and eat something yum or disgusting. It was quite fun because when I had the blindfold on I had chocolate icing. It was funny watching the other people having a turn because they didn't know what it was and because they were stuffing it in there mouth to win.

One of my favorite parts of camp was tubing along the freezing cold water. As me and Jharvarnah were tubing our bottoms were scraping on the huge big rocks. As Daniel was pushing me and Jharvarnah we were spinning and spinning and I got so dizzy.

My biggest achievement was hiding in the pitch black. It was sore when I had to bend on my knees it was like It was like I was falling asleep. It was fun play spotlight but it was tricky finding the groups. As my group was creeping at the top by the kitchen I could smell our desserts cooking and I just wanted to eat them so bad I forgot my group was gone.
